It dawned on me recently that people in my local community who are looking for either a fresh reboot of their existing web presence or an entirely new website could in fact be looking for the same old, same old.
You see, web design is accomplished many different ways . . . for instance via:
- Templates purchased off the internet
- Designs copied from some other site
- A relative or friend who “knows web design” developing something acceptable
- Or a pricey design firm creating a custom site
In all these instances the entity needing the site is looking for a new face on the world wide web is getting the same thing (essentially) from each option: colors, shapes, words, pictures and sometimes media cobbled together to create something that is lacking in: a focused message, a hook for the target audience(s) and a purpose other than having a presence on the web.
Don’t you deserve better?
Shouldn’t the first thought during a new web project be: “Who do I want to talk to, and what do I want them to do with what I say?”
Ultimately the master plan of any good web designer should be to represent the client in a unique, memorable way that shares the message with the target audience.
What do you want to get out of your new website?
